FAMA-Alek Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, with headquarters in Nigeria and an office in Maryland, USA, was formally registered in 2011 by the children of late Hon. and Mrs. F.A.M. Amadi to carry forth their vision.
At FAMA-Alek Foundation, our goal is to provide opportunities in different spheres of life for less privileged people and communities. This we aspire to accomplish by encouraging excellence and empowering not only the most vulnerable individuals and families in our communities but all who desire to achieve self-sufficiency, using the latest technology available. We envision a world where the most vulnerable members in local communities come out of poverty using knowledge, skills, and techniques acquired through our programs and services. These goals are driven by the vision instilled in us by our parents.
It may not be an understatement when reports present that about fifty percent of Nigerians and most African countries live below poverty level based on international standards. Therefore, our client base is the low-income and no-income people and people who ordinarily would not have easy access to information and modern technology. Emphasis is placed on children, less privileged women and the youths to include physically and mentally challenged individuals. It is no gainsaying that the provision of basic-skills training opportunities is a small investment in comparison to the cost of ignoring the problem of hunger in any country. The consequences and impact that could arise in a number of health and crime issues as a result of doing nothing could be devastating to economic and social development of any society.
FAMA-Alek Foundation thus works in partnership with local, international bodies and institutions, individuals and corporate partners who share our passion and commitment to tackle the challenges of the less privileged communities to provide services and programs that will assist beneficiaries to
• Reach the maximum level of self-sustainability;
• Access latest technology in agriculture, energy, health and relevant poverty alleviation initiatives;
• Acquire relevant knowledge needed for survival in an increasingly competitive world.
We intend to strongly focus on building trust, commitment, and cooperation with our partners to reach and positively impact on about one million people in our first five years of full operation in Nigeria.
Over the years, we have implemented some activities such as instituting an educational award in honor of our father, late Hon. F.A.M. Amadi at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1990 – a Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Resources Development. The provision of large farmland in Opanda to local farmers enables them to earn their livelihood by growing cash crops, though at a subsistence level.
We aim to be leaders among our people through empowerment, using our cutting-edge programs, services and in partnership with the very best in the technological and scientific world. To accomplish our set goals, we strive to motivate members of our immediate communities to get involved in our programs and activities that help in alleviating hunger and poverty, while promoting wellness and community service. Our efforts include soliciting grants from national and international communities, and using such resources in teaching, packaging information and outreach through our network of programs and services. Our services include, but not limited to, setting up centers that provide opportunities for self-sufficiency activities for the less privileged.
Our work is made possible by individual and corporate partners who share our passion and commitment to tackle the challenges of the less privileged communities. In partnership with these public and private organizations, at FAMA-Alek Foundation our dreams will be realized.
